International Congress on Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders
International Congress on Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders was held online by Green Crescent on November 26-27, 2024. Participating in the congress were 23 researchers from 14 countries, including notable names from such institutions as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), European Union Drug Agency (EUDA), International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM), European Joint Programme on Radioactive Waste Management (EURAD) and Movendi International.
President of the Turkish Green Crescent Society Assoc. Dr. Mehmet Dinç and Ministry of Health Director General of Public Health Assoc. Dr. Muhammed Emin Demirkol delivered the opening speech at the congress, which was held to provide the opportunity for the international community to share knowledge and best practices as well as to constitute new frameworks with scientific and evidence-based approaches on drug addiction. The congress, followed by over 2,000 participants, focused on 6 main themes:
• Current practices and research methods in the field of fighting drug addiction;
• Prevention, response and advocacy activities related to drug addiction;
• New risks and dangers related to drug addiction;
• The effectiveness of drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation services;
• Best practices gained in the fight against drug addiction, lessons learned;
• Innovative policy, action plan and intervention program proposals in the fight against drug addiction.
Attended by experts from such countries as the United Kingdom, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, United Arab Emirates and Greece new risks and dangers related to drug addiction, global developments in the prevention of drug addiction and the latest scientific developments with the international community within the scope of struggle against drug addiction and enable the creation of scientific and evidence-based novel and effective approaches.

The keynote speakers at the congress were Senior Epidemiologist in the Research Branch of United Nations office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Dr. Kamran Niaz and Chair of the International Society for Addiction Medicine Dr Hamad Al Ghafri.
